Control Your History.

Since it’s the end of Black History Month, it’s only right to talk about the ‘Father of Black History,’ Carter G. Woodson. He was known as the ‘Father of Black History,’ because he dedicated his career to the field of African American history and pushed to have Black History Month recognized as a nation wide institution.

What Is Motivating You?

“When you control a man’s thinking you do not have to worry about his actions.”

~From Carter G. Woodson’s “The Miseducation of the Negro”

When I went searching for the perfect quote, I fell in love with this one right here. Why? Because it shows the importance of following your own mind and your own path. What if Carter G. Woodson had’ve decided that the world didn’t need to know more African/African American history? He faced backlash and hate to change something that everyone knew to be the norm. He set a goal to do something different and ended up doing something remarkable. I encourage you to read up on him if you already haven’t, there’s so much more about him.

What is motivating you?

Money, power, fame, stability, knowledge? Whatever is motivating you will determine how hard you work. When you let someone or something else control you, you lose track of what was pushing you in the first place. That new ‘thing’ will become your focus and derail everything that you’ve worked for. *Now this is only for situations/people that could impact you negatively and mess up everything you’re working toward*

What is controlling your thoughts?

Let’s say everyday you drive a certain route and one particular day, someone tells you that the road is closed until further notice. You don’t see any signs or indication that the road is closed, but you listen anyway. A month rolls by and you wonder if the road is still closed, so you ask someone else. >They tell you it was never closed < Turns out that that person saw you drive this way everyday and wanted to delay you. They didn’t want you to get to where you needed to be on time. Are you letting someone control your thoughts, whose sole purpose is to delay your journey?

As long as that person can get you to believe that the road is closed, you’ll never take the chance. Someone needs you. Someone needs you to be right here, right now. Put those blinders on and don’t stop until you get everything you came for! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something! They don’t understand that the gifts and talents that have been given to you comes with a greater purpose. What you have can’t be contained and will always require more from you. This is one simple fact that I’ve always ran from until now.

Wrap-Up!

This is the last post for February. I love writing and after years of neglecting my artsy side I’m glad it’s still there. This feels liberating! Stay tuned for many more great reads to come!
